Board
Mark Barnaba
Mark is a highly experienced investment banker and corporate advisor, having focused predominantly in the natural resources sector. He has served as Deputy Chairman and Lead Independent Director of the world’s fourth largest iron ore producer Fortescue (ASX:FMG) since November 2017 and has been a Director of Fortescue since 2010. He is also a former member of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia.
Elizabeth Gaines
Elizabeth is a highly experienced business leader with extensive international experience as a Chief Executive Officer. She has significant experience in the resources sector and is the former CEO and Managing Director of Fortescue, where she presided over a heralded period of operational delivery and significant growth in shareholder value.
Shaun Day, FCA
Shaun is Managing Director of Greatland Gold plc. Shaun has over 20 years of experience in executive and financial positions across mining and infrastructure, investment banking and international consulting firms. Shaun has considerable capital markets experience with a track record of leading successful transactions including M&A of publicly listed companies, farm-in agreements and raising capital. Prior to joining Greatland, Shaun spent six years as CFO of Northern Star Resources Limited, an ASX100 company and a global-scale Australian gold producer, where he oversaw the expansion of its market capitalisation from AU$700m to AU$8bn. Prior to Northern Star, Shaun spent five years as CFO of top 50 SGX listed Sakari Resources Plc which operated multiple mines before its sale for over US$2 billion.
James Wilson, BSME (Mechanical Engineering)
James (Jimmy) is a highly experienced mining and natural resources executive with deep operational experience across a range of commodities and jurisdictions. He spent more than 25 years with the world’s biggest mining company BHP and held various senior executive positions including President of the iron ore, energy coal and stainless steel materials divisions. Mr Wilson was appointed to the Export Finance Australia board in December 2020 for a 3-year term and holds a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Natal.
Alex Borrelli, FCA
Alex is a senior Non-Executive Director of Greatland Gold plc. Alex qualified as a Chartered Accountant and has many years’ experience in investment banking encompassing flotations, takeovers, and mergers and acquisitions for private and quoted companies. Alex is also a director of Bradda Head Lithium Limited (on AIM), Red Rock Resources plc (on AIM) and Tiger Royalties and Investments plc (on AIM).
Yasmin Broughton
Yasmin is a qualified lawyer with significant experience as a non-executive director across a diverse range of industries with a particular focus on natural resources. With over 20 years of experience working with ASX-listed companies, Yasmin has expertise in governance, risk management, compliance and regulation. Yasmin currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of RAC Group (Western Australia's largest insurance provider), Synergy (Western Australia's largest electricity generator and energy retailer) and Wright Prospecting (private resources company). Yasmin has previously served as Non-Executive Director of Resolute Mining (ASX/LSE-listed gold producer), Western Areas (ASX-listed nickel producer) and the Insurance Commission of Western Australia.
Clive Latcham, BE (HONS), MSc (Mineral Economics)
Clive is a chemical engineer and mineral economist with over thirty years’ experience in senior roles in the mining sector. Clive joined Greatland from ERM – Environmental Resource Management, the world’s leading sustainability consultancy group, where he worked as Senior External Advisor, and advisor to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to his role at ERM, Clive worked as an independent advisor to private equity and mining consultancy firms, and spent nine years in senior roles with Rio Tinto plc. During his time at Rio Tinto, Clive spent four years as Copper Group Mining Executive, where he was responsible for managing Rio Tinto’s investments in the operating businesses of Escondida in Chile, Grasberg in Indonesia, and Palabora in South Africa and for the initial development of new projects and acquisitions, including La Granja in Peru and La Sampala in Indonesia.
Paul Hallam BE (HONS) Mining, FAICD, FAusIMM
Paul is a senior mining industry professional with more than 40 years of Australian and international resource experience across a range of commodities including both surface and underground mining. He has global operational and corporate experience from his executive roles including Director of Operations with Fortescue Metals Group, Executive General Manager of Developments & Projects with Newcrest Mining Limited, Director of Victorian Operations with Alcoa as well as Executive General Manager of Base and Precious Metals at North Ltd. Since his retirement in 2011, Paul has advised several Boards as a Non-Executive Director, including ASX listed Coda Minerals Ltd where he remains a Non-Executive Director.
Management Team
Simon Tyrrell
Simon joins Greatland from his most recent senior leadership role as General Manager responsible for processing, asset management and major project portfolios at gold miner Northern Star. He has more than 25 years of operational, engineering and project development experience primarily focused on precious and base metals. Mr Tyrrell holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Minerals Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy, and is a Chartered Professional and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. During his tenure at Northern Star, Mr Tyrrell was responsible for all major capital projects from study through to implementation including the Thunderbox, Pogo, and Jundee Expansion Projects which delivered materially higher throughput and operating cost reductions further extending mine life at each operation. Mr Tyrrell has previously held senior consulting roles with Ausenco and CPC Engineering and earlier in his career held various operational roles with Newcrest, Normandy Mining Limited and Western Areas Limited.
Dean Horton
Dean is a finance professional with over 25 years of experience, with particular expertise in debt financing for the development of natural resources, energy and infrastructure projects. Dean has held senior roles in a number of commercial banks, including nine years at National Australia Bank in Australia and internationally where he was Head of Project Finance (Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure) for Asia. Dean is experienced in strategy, corporate development, corporate finance, business improvement and risk management.
Monique Connolly, CA
Monique is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 15 years of experience working in both practice and public listed companies and within mineral extractive industries. Monique commenced her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, working across both Audit and Financial Advisory teams. Monique has held senior finance roles with several listed businesses, including Conocophillips and Santos Limited, and has a strong focus on driving continuous improvement around financial reporting, systems and processes.
Matthew Kwan
Matt is a lawyer with over 20 years of experience in private practice and as a general counsel. He joined Greatland Gold in December 2021 as General Counsel with accountability for its legal affairs. Prior to that, he was General Manager - Legal and a member of the executive team at Aquila Resources, part of the project development division of BaoWu. Whilst in private practice, Matt was a senior lawyer at Blake Dawson in Perth and Linklaters in London, where he specialised in M&A, joint ventures and equity capital markets. Matt holds an MA (Oxon) in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford and is admitted to practise in Australia and England.
Rowan Krasnoff
Rowan has extensive transactional experience in public and private mergers and acquisitions, financings, joint ventures and investments. Rowan joined Greatland from Fortescue Metals Group where he was a Corporate Development Manager responsible for assessing, managing and executing business development activities in both mining and renewable energy. Rowan was previously a Commercial Associate at IFM Investors working with its Infrastructure investments team, and prior to that a Senior Associate in Ashurst’s Corporate team in Perth where he advised on and managed significant, high value and cross-border M&A transactions particularly in the mining and resources sector. Rowan holds Bachelors of Laws and Commerce from the University of Western Australia and continues to be a qualified lawyer in Western Australia.
Stephen Ronaldson
Stephen is a graduate of Oriel College, Oxford with over 30 years’ experience in corporate law. Stephen ran his own legal firm before merging it with Druces LLP in 2018 where he is now a partner working in the Corporate & Commercial team. Stephen acts as company secretary for several publicly listed companies.
Otto Richter
Otto has over twenty years' experience in international mining and consulting roles. He has held key technical and operational positions with multiple underground and open-pit operations in Australia and abroad. His consulting experience has covered mining projects at all levels, including technical and due diligence reviews and independent technical advisory roles to multiple international companies. Otto’s recent roles include Group Study Manager for Resolute Mining Ltd, Principal Consultant for Snowden Mining Industry Consultants and Mine Planning Manager for Newcrest Mining Ltd - Telfer Mine.
Damien Stephens
Damien has over 25 years experience in gold and base metals exploration and development. With a strong focus on technical excellence and safe, socially responsible, efficient and effective exploration, Damien has held senior exploration roles with a number of TSX and ASX listed companies including, Iamgold, Dalradian Gold, Westgold and most recently Sandfire Resources. He has overseen the development of a 1m+ oz Au deposit and the substantial increase in resources both from greenfield and near mine exploration.
Roger Speers
Roger is a discovery focussed Mineral Exploration Geologist with 25 years experience across Western Australia, North, East and West Africa, in gold and base metals, from near mine resource development and brownfields exploration, to remote grassroots; with extensive management, business development, project generation and assessment experience. Roger was involved in the resource drill out and mine development of the 15Moz Au Sukari Gold Mine with Centamin in Egypt, the country’s first modern gold mine. He was subsequently involved with the burgeoning frontier junior gold exploration sector in Burkina Faso, bauxite in Cameroon and managing exploration in Cote d’Ivoire for Resolute Gold Mining.
Michael Thomson
Michael is a qualified geologist with over 20 years’ experience across exploration, development, and operational projects across Australia and Africa. Michael has developed a broad geological skill set, focusing on Resource geology throughout the entire mining cycle from early-stage discovery through to active mining operations in both open pit and underground environments. Michael's most recent roles include senior roles at the Creasy Group, Eastern Goldfields and Tanami Gold.
Nick James
Nick has 25 years of site operational experience in exploration, open pit and underground mining, with over 10 years spent specifically in health, safety and environment roles.
Nick most recently held a Health Safety Environment role with Creasy Group and prior to that was Safety and Training Manager for Savannah Nickel Mines (Panoramic Resources). Nick is committed to ensuring adherence to health, safety and environmental requirements to promote a safe and effective work environment.
